A feed-in tariff (FiT) is the credit your electricity retailer may provide for solar energy exported to the grid, usually shown in cents per kilowatt-hour. Compare the FiT with the retailer’s usage rates, daily supply charge, contract conditions and any export limits, because a higher tariff does not always mean a lower overall bill. Rates and eligibility vary by retailer, state or territory, system size and network rules, and retailers can change offers under their contracts. Check the retailer’s current energy fact sheet and use your own smart-meter data where possible.
